Mailing Address

It's amazing how technology has reside and convert our minds these days that everything is not as simple as before...
I had a personal "awakening" yesterday when I received a message from an old uni friend.
He asked me for my mailing address as he wanted to send me something.
I immediately responded and texted the simplest email address that I often check to him; and received the delivery notification that my message had reached him.

Then 1-2 minutes later, my phone vibrated again; signalling a new incoming message and it was him again. I thought he probably just wanted to say Thank you or just an acknowledgement that he got my message...

And this was what he said...
"It's tangible stuff; I can't attach it to the email"....

I was surprised at first; thinking, "What can't be attached to the email?"
And then...it dawned upon me, that he was talking about actual physical item!!!!
DUUUUUHHHHHH!!!!

Of course, he meant the house mailing address!! NOT email....

Sighs....Tech savvy...not that good either in normal life:p

Farewell Dinner for Dept Head

A week before Christmas; 18th Dec 2007, I was working overtime...haha, to host a farewell function for our long-serving department head.

It was an event planned and organized by his staff manager and we were engaged to help out in the entire coordination as well.
The venue selected was the Tanjong Marina City near Weld Quay (one of my favourite ship and yacht watching place:)

It was rather grand and canopies were set up to welcome an estimated crowd of 120+.

Christmas is coming!!!:)

Since everyone's been in the mood for Christmas, I am definitely not out of the circle!!
I always look forward to Christmas and often indulge in the joyous mood since the end of November..(EVERY year:)

I have noticed pics of Christmas decorations everywhere in the shopping malls in KL and I also captured some of the decorations in Gurney Plaza while I was waiting for my movie a fortnight ago...

The Golden Compass

Hosted by RockYouPhotos.com
Based on a book; the Northern Lights, by Philip Pullman, the movie came to life bringing along the string of magical creatures ranging from witches, talking animals in the form of daemons, polar bears involved in an interesting twist of mystical events.
Hosted by RockYouPhotos.com
Don't blame me for complaining as I do really like magic and fantasy worlds, BUT aren't we overdose on this genre for this year and the previous?
I mean, I don't mind great adapations nor wizardry but excessive feed can eventually drown you of that interest or enthusiasm since you will be expecting the same storyline of magical characters to appear and some sort of power struggle and prophecies and ultimate battle (where eventually good will triumph over evil OR, just a cliffhanger ending which signals a sequel in the making:p)

Philip Pullman's novel was also a trilogy which was also in the same genre of magical world and his tale was spun on our human world and another parallel world beside us where human beings and their souls are separated and can walk next to them in the form of daemons. This world is governed by the Magisterium; some sort of government for the magical world.

The protagonist of the story was a little girl about the age of 10; Lyra Belacqua, played by Dakota Blue Richards.
Hosted by RockYouPhotos.com
Mischievous,free-spirited and strong-willed, Lyra was placed in a school by her uncle, the grave and no-nonsense Lord Asriel who wanted her to be groomed to be a fine young lady in the future.

Hosted by RockYouPhotos.com
Played by the new Bond, Daniel Craig, this character is not much of a favourite by the Magisterium who plans to bring him down through death to prevent him from obtaining the mysterious Dust and connecting their world to the human world.
Hosted by RockYouPhotos.com
He was a strict and ambitious man, who made the profound discovery of Dust and announces his wish to embark on his journey to the North to do his research which was frowned upon by the Magisterium but was finally approved with the strong support of Lyra's college.

Lyra dreams of going to the North although was forbidden by her uncle that she fell into the embrace of her new acquaintance at the college; Mrs Marisa Coulter (Nicole Kidman) who seemed to be fond of her and invited her along on her trip to the North; with the college's approval.

And thus, begins an exciting journey as the story slowly uncovers the adventures of this fearless girl in overcoming and dealing with trust, deceit, betrayal and loyalty along the way.

Overall, the cinematography of the movie was not too bad; and the movie started off on a slow note and builds up to its climax.
The characters were developed to reality; particularly Lyra. However, I must say her acting skills were still mediocre as Daniel Craig's.
The only ones worth watching in this movie were the two ladies; Nicole Kidman and Eva Green who were modest and as usual, stunning in their ways.

I should say this is a rather interesting watch as well if you are into the genre; but do not hope for a kid with magical powers like Harry Potter, Lyra is more realistic as she is just any normal schoolgirl except that she was destined (as usual) to be the only key to read the Golden Compass which answers the question posted by the key holder and reveals in its own way that only the prophesized will know how to read it.

Scary Dream

I had a weird and scary dream last night; more of a nightmarish nature and believe me, I was really spooked by it!!
I have related it here in my Starry blog and I am interpreting it myself. I do know what's going on with me but I can't reveal it yet...I will tell when the time is right:)

Funny facts about Men And Women (kinda true:p)

Men:
1. All men are extremely busy.
2. Although they are so busy, they still have time for women.
3. Although they have time for women, they don't really care for them.
4. Although they don't really care for them, they always have one around.
5. Although they always have one around them, they always try their luck with others.

Women:
1. The most important thing for a woman is financial security.
2. Although this is so important, they still go out and buy expensive clothes and stuff.
3. Although they always buy expensive clothes, they never have something to wear.
4. Although they never have something to wear, they always dress beautifully.
5. Although they always dress beautifully, their clothes are always just 'an old rag'.
6. Although their clothes are always 'just an old rag', they still expect you to compliment them.
7. Although they expect you to compliment them, when you do, they don't believe you.

Wisdom:WHEN I WAS MARRIED 25 YEARS, I TOOK A LOOK AT MY WIFE ONE DAY AND SAID, 'HONEY, 25 YEARS AGO WE HAD A CHEAP APARTMENT, A CHEAP CAR, SLEPT ON A SOFA BED AND WATCHED A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV, BUT I GOT TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT WITH A HOT 25-YEAR-OLD BLOND.'

NOW WE HAVE A $500,000.00 HOME, A $45,000.00 CAR, NICE BIG BED AND PLASMA SCREEN TV, BUT I'M SLEEPING WITH A 50-YEAR-OLD WOMAN. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU ARE NOT HOLDING UP YOUR SIDE OF THINGS.'

MY WIFE IS A VERY REASONABLE WOMAN. SHE TOLD ME TO GO OUT & FIND A HOT 25-YEAR-OLD BLONDE, AND SHE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT I WOULD ONCE AGAIN BE LIVING IN A CHEAP APARTMENT, DRIVING A CHEAP CAR, SLEEPING ON A SOFA BED AND WATCHING A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV.

AREN'T OLDER WOMEN GREAT? THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO SOLVE YOUR MID-LIFE CRISIS!

Pass it on

I was reading the Sunday Star yesterday morning before I went to work and there was this particular article which caught my eye (and my heart).

It was an interesting article on how this lady remembered a kind deed when she was in a foreign land years ago and was helped by the kind Irish men which she vowed to repay to any future Irish folk she cross path with in the future.

I was really surprised by the story where the writer was actually with another female friend and they had to hitchhike (they were told that it was safe to do so) and this car of 2 elderly men stopped to pick them up.

They were really nice and even brought them to cafes and bought them lots of cakes for them to eat and before they left, one of them even took out his wallet and offered some cash if they were running out.

What touched me most was the fact that these men were real gentlemen and definitely good Samaritans with a big heart. I would not even dream to imagine what happens here today if ladies were to thumb the hitchhike sign on our local highways or even roads and were offered a lift by 2 men. (they would probably end up in the next day's dailies' headlines; dead - brutally murdered and the whole world will be shaking their heads as to why dumb women never learn from the news).

It is really rare and in fact, I am sad that today our once caring society has turned into a selfish society not because they choose to but because they have to in order to ensure their own safety and also to protect their families and loved ones. What was once a harmonious and safe environment has now turned into a dark and dangerous place.

So back to the story, after all those 2 nice men had done, when the writer asked how could she repay their kindness, the only thing he asked was, "Nothing, just pass it on"
That was so heart-warming!:)

Cars - BURNT??

Last Friday, one of the cars was burnt in the carpark of my office's compound.
A Proton Saga; which suddenly caught fire in the mid of the day definitely caught all of the employees by surprise when an announcement was made to report the incident and also the surge of important emails forwarded by admins of every department to the employees.

And all this time, I was lucky as I had left the office earlier; I was working half-day on Fridays anyway:)
I received these pictures from my colleague this morning and I was stunned that one unfortunate car which was parked adjacent to the fateful vehicle also suffered the devastating fate. Look at how badly burnt the poor and "innocent"Kelisa was!!!~

I would definitely cry buckets!!!
